Please note: this is not a recreational rental service. Here at OMT, we have a fleet of hire bikes available for use in Christchurch, which can be used in conjunction with our services. We are not a hiring company and don’t hire these bikes out for personal use outside our services.

Ride Forever Course Hire: $140
With On Road Training / Assessment: $110
This is the ideal bike for a new rider looking to gain some road experience before purchasing their own trusty steed. Being lightweight and low power of 249cc, it’s an easy bike to handle and has a seat height of 795–800mm. The heated grips are an added bonus, particularly for those riding in the cooler months.

Ride Forever Course Hire: $140
With On Road Training / Assessment: $110
Another great bike for new riders, but also perfect for riders needing a LAMS (NZTA Learner Approved) bike to complete road-based training and assessment. A nice aesthetic, being a naked bike, with a 289cc engine and a seat height of 799mm. A nice fit for almost anyone.
Suzuki V-Strom 650
Ride Forever Course Hire: $160
With On Road Training / Assessment: $110
This dual-purpose bike is taller and ideal for those requiring more legroom. Also, a great entry-level dual-purpose bike for someone to try if they are considering moving to a more adventure-style or upright bike. Riders drawn to the V-Strom often go on to explore our adventure riding school once they’re comfortable off-road.
Pricing & Conditions
Hire pricing sits alongside your chosen service. You’re not charged a separate rental fee on top. However, there is currently a $5 fuel levy that applies on top of normal rates.
Rates run from $110 when paired with on-road training or an assessment and up to $160 for a standalone Ride Forever course hire. Bikes are allocated on availability, so booking your course date early gives you the best chance of securing your preferred model.

Are the hire bikes LAMS approved?
Yes. The Honda CB300R and Suzuki Gixxer 250 are both LAMS (Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme) compliant, making them suitable for learner and restricted licence training and assessment.
Do I need my own gear to use a hire bike?
We recommend bringing your own helmet and riding gear where possible. If you don’t have your own, we offer gear included in the price of your ride. If you’re unsure what’s required, our motorcycle training FAQs page covers gear standards in more detail, or you can ask when you book.
Is insurance included, and is there a deposit?
Hire is arranged as part of your training or assessment booking, so cover and any deposit requirements are confirmed when you book. Before riding, customers must agree to a disclaimer stating they are responsible for repair costs up to our insurance excess of $1,000.

Can I hire a bike for any Ornsby course?
Hire bikes are available for one-on-one training, assessments and Ride Forever courses. They’re not available as standalone recreational rentals.
How far in advance should I book a hire bike?
Because our fleet is limited, we recommend confirming hire when you book your course date rather than waiting until closer to the day, especially during busy periods.
