TAILORED TRAINING PROGRAMS FOR MOTORBIKE LEARNERS

Never ridden before? Maybe you learned to ride back in the ‘70s and can’t remember the basics. Or perhaps you’ve ridden dirt bikes on the farm and want to go on-road. Whatever the case, we’re here to help you to become a competent, safe rider and guide you through the licensing process.

We know your mate Stu could show you a few tricks, but learning to ride through Ornsby Motorcycle Training means tuition from fully qualified professional instructors with a wealth of knowledge and experience. There’s no ‘she’ll be right’, just the ‘right’ way to ride. Trust us—there’s a big difference.

We offer one-on-one lessons that help beginners learn the basics and build confidence, as well as more comprehensive practice for the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST), which you must pass to take your motorcycle learners test. After passing the BHST with OMT, you will be issued a certificate to present at a licensing agency when booking your motorcycle theory test.

Once you have your learner license in hand, get back in touch, and we can help you progress to your restricted license.

LEARN-TO-RIDE: ONE-ON-ONE SESSION

TIME: 2-Hours

COST: $250

This 2-hour, one-on-one lesson focuses on teaching motorbike learners to ride a motorcycle the ‘right’ way. We help you build a good foundation by understanding and practising ‘correct’ techniques. ‘Advanced skills are the basics mastered’. If during this session you are ready (comfortably riding the bike), the instructor will start to work you through some of the competencies associated with the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST) needed to obtain yourlearner’s motorcycle licence.

Following your lesson, the instructor will provide feedback and advise you on your next step, whether that’s booking a follow-up lesson or possibly the Basic Handling Skills Test (BHST). Generally, for someone with no previous riding experience, 2 – 6 hours is the average timeframe to progress to a standard where you can pass the BHST as required for your learner’s motorcycle licence.

SUITABLE FOR:

  • This is perfect for anyone who wants to learn to ride and should be your first step.

YOU GET:

  • A one-on-one lesson with one of our professional riding instructors.
  • Motorcycle hire (Suzuki GN125) included.

  • Riding ergonomics—how we sit on the bike for best control and balance.
  • Clutch throttle coordination—moving off and stopping.
  • Changing gears—up and down.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHAT DO I NEED TO WEAR FOR MY BHST?

ALL RIDERS are required to wear sturdy footwear and long pants—instructors may refuse training to riders who are not properly attired. DO NOT turn up in shorts and/or jandals.

Sitting or passing your BHST is not guaranteed—some riders may require further training before being ready to sit the test. Our goal is to develop safe, competent riders, not just help you pass a test to get your learner motorbike licence.

All you need to bring is yourself (in the right clothing—long pants and sturdy footwear such as trainers) and suitable identification—either a driver’s license, passport, student ID, or birth certificate.

We provide motorcycles, helmets, jackets, and gloves for all training sessions and tests. However, if you prefer to use your own gear, you are welcome to bring it!

If you cannot attend a booked course or test, let us know 48 hours in advance, and we will reschedule you at no cost. This will ensure you can still work towards sitting your motorcycle learners test. We do not offer refunds to riders who do not show up on the day.
