I am an ex UK Police Motorcyclist and moved to New Zealand form the UK in 2009 after serving 15 years in Derbyshire Police.
The last ten years in the Police were as a Traffic Patrol driver, Class 1 Advanced Police Motorcyclist and VIP Escort Officer. Wherever possible though, I went out on a bike and the Police paid for the petrol! What could be better?
Trained in the art of Police Roadcraft progressive riding, part of my role included the assessment of motorcyclist riding ability under the Bikesafe scheme. This was an programme operated by the Police designed to reduce casualties among motorcyclists who represented disproportionately among collision statistics.
In 2000 I also qualified as a motorcycle instructor in the UK, and ran my own training school for over 8 years training riders who were new to motorcycling right up to those wanting to fine tune their skill levels.
Over the years, I personally dealt with numerous motorcycle collisions, many with fatal consequences. The vast majority of fatal bike collisions I attended were not caused by other road users, but by mistakes on the bike riders part. I therefore passionately believe that expert training is an essential tool that leads to enhanced skill levels, reduced crash risk and an overall more enjoyable ride.
I am the Dan Ornsby Motorcycle Training Otago, Central Otago and Southland Instructor and look forward to helping you become a more confident and accomplished rider.
